The IPO has been a shining light in Israel’s cultural life in war as in peace, with conductors and soloists insisting on fulfilling their obligations or sometimes making on-the-spur-of-the-moment visits, to show their solidarity with the young state.
Under the guidance of Maestro Zubin Mehta, the IPO’s Musical Director for life since 1981, the Orchestra rose to greater challenges and honed its skills, becoming one of the finest orchestras in the world.
